This is a view of the mining site in Carrera, Italy. It's hard to get a feeling for scale until you look at some of the closer pictures.
This picture is closer; you can see the sheered tower of marble about to topple. To get a sense of the size look at the size of the two human figures. You begin to get an idea of the size of this gorgeous stone!
This is a view inside the excavation site. Look at the amazing walls of marble!
Once the marble is excavated it has to be carefully transported down the mountainside and into the village where it will be cut into slabs, polished and the exported all over the world.
I don't know about you but I will never be able to look at another piece of marble in the same way.
