Michael Savoia

By Erin Ferucci
Celebrity Lifestyle Designer

Michael Savoia's talent is flawless and his passion is inspirational!
His work as a custom embroidery and embellishment artisan is incomparable.

Years ago I was designing a home in Sun Valley, Idaho. I was doing really simple oyster linen chairs for the breakfast room and wanted to take them up a notch design wise. So, I had Michael Savoia embroider an Arts & Crafts style pattern on the top panel of the upholstered chair. Need less to say, they came out beautiful....Take a look at his process, which leads to amazing products...An image begins on the computer… then the computer relays the exact pattern to scale on the fabric and VOILA!! Michael's company Villa Sovoia Inc. specializes in custom embroidery company with its showroom and workroom located in the Pacific Design Center, West Hollywood, CA.

You can also read Michael's Blog for fascinating insights, fabulous photos and tons of inspiration!

Vintage Textiles from Brenda Antin

By Erin Ferucci
Celebrity Lifestyle Designer

This AMAZING collection of Vintage textiles, panels, drapes, bedding comes from Brenda Antin in Los Angeles. I have been shopping in Brenda's shop for close to 15 years now....it's always a delight to see all the new goodies...but when I went in last week...OMG...she was organizing her enormous collection of vintage textiles...I just had to share... They have been in business for approx. 18 years, collecting vintage textiles and antique furniture from England, France, and all over Europe. They have enormous one of a kind collections of: ticking's, toiles, exceptional linen's and lace from Chateaux's in France.Generally, all their upholstered items in their shop are mostly re-upholstered in French Vintage Linen - I LOVE THIS!!! OMGAll of the linen and textile collection can be purchased from their shop directly by calling: 323-934-8451.They are always traveling, bringing back new ideas and inspirations for designers to share with their clients ... You need to see this collection in person, it’s worth a visit just for shear inspiration or to enjoy the impeccable taste level…I highly recommend a visit ..

Market Week Trend Spotting #1

By Erin Ferucci
Celebrity Lifestyle Designer

Two weeks I was immersed in market week, a big event in Los Angeles for Interior Designers.!!
Designers came into town from all over the U.S. to view new collections of fabrics and furniture, meet other designers, see new products, etc. etc. and wow was this event amazing!!

Most everyone re-designed their showrooms, threw absolutely beautiful parties, and wined and dined all of us designers. It was fun to meet all the editor's of the big design magazines too. They like to get to know us as much as we like to get to know them!! It's fun to talk shop amongst your peers too. Everyone is so supportive of one another…and were all chins up- in this economy...

To see all of the new things was amazing too!!
I noticed the resurgence in WING CHAIRS!!! They were everywhere!!!!!! I mean everywhere!!
Take a look for trend spotting #1... classically tailored...

studded up...office wing backs...contemporary wing backs...even chaise wing backs. Wing backs are hot right now. Even Ethan Allen has jumped on the band wagon.

I Slept With John Saladino Last Night

By Erin Ferucci
Celebrity Lifestyle Designer

Yes, its true....he was with me!! Under the covers and all!! The god of design spent the night with me, manifested in the form of his new Book "Saladino VILLA". STUNNING!!

I have been doing Interior Design for over 20 years now, and hands down John Saladino is the biggest star in my eyes. I met him once...I was eating a scrumptious focaccia sandwich with my friend Philip Stites from THERIEN, and right as the lettuce and the tomato were in my mouth (all of it- ‘cause you know it never really breaks down) I looked up, and there he was! John Saladino in the flesh!! OMG!! My hands started sweating…my knees were weak. I was too nervous to stand up. I wasn't this nervous when I met Mick Jagger! And there I was with 2 pounds of focaccia, lettuce and tomatoes hanging from my lips. UGGH! I began frantically whipping mayonnaise off my chin as he approached our table. Somehow with my heart beating frantically and my hands trembling, I managed to pull it together (sans mayo) by the time Phillip introduced me. It was all too brief… But now, a night with my arms around his…book. I may never be the same.

Where Were You at 7am Yesterday?

By Erin Ferucci
Celebrity Lifestyle Designer

I was in the refrigerator...which at 7am feels more like a freezer!!Every Tuesday morning around 7 am, you'll find me in the freezer....well, at the wholesale flower mart's freezer/frig. One of my current design adventures is doing a weekly floral design for a fabulous restaurant in Venice Beach, CA, called A/K. Each week is a delectable journey of seasons and regions...from Chile to Holland...each week is different…it’s so inspiring...how great is my life that I get paid to flower shop??!! The flowers were so beautiful and fragrant this week I just wanted to pull a mattress in and sleep among the flowers! Can you imagine waking up to this fragrant riot of color? It’s impossible to be anything but happy around flowers.

While I was shopping I saw the florals being amassed for two different weddings – very fun! One was yellow and white….

the other…..pink, pink, pink.

My mission is a little different. Buying weekly flowers while sticking to a budget means buying SEASONAL flowers. You would think it would be limiting, but the opposite is true, it’s actually wonderful creative fun picking the freshest flowers and deciding how to create an exciting arrangement that is colorful and current. It’s like being a chef, really and shopping at a farmer's market, choosing the best ingredients while formulating a recipe…Buying seasonal, saves a lot of $$ and gets you the freshest results.

AK is lovely restaurant, serving incredible food. The flowers need to be sophisticated yet simple. This week my inspiration was purple starting with purple hydrangeas,

a deep eggplant purple that I ultimately paired with... gorgeous flowering hyacinths and... ox blood Dahlia’s!

Sorry if you want to see the actual arrangements you’ll have to make the trip to A/K. It’ll be worth it. Tell them Erin sent you!

Super Jet

By Erin Ferucci
Celebrity Lifestyle Designer

It seems like everyone is talking about the Super Jet, and with good reason. The Airbus A380, AKA the "Super Jet" is the largest passenger plane in the world. With 2 full levels and 239 feet of length the Airbus has the equivalent space of two full tennis courts put together. It's huge! But it's size isn't the only thing that makes it distinctive. It is the epitome of luxury travel.

Designer, Marc Newson, a London based designer but native Australian was hired by Qantas to head the project. Newson is known for his retro aesthetic and extremely wide variety of projects, everything from interiors to the fuel efficient cars of the future. On the Qantas Airbus there are 14 exclusive first-class cabins, each with personal storage a dining table that seats two, a leather chair that contains converts to a bed and a 17 inch LCD television. In business class there are 72 private lounges with leather sofas, sky bed seats, large video monitors and self serve bars.
The Super Jet has already changed the way in which we travel, and I’m not just talking about the windows in the first class bathrooms! It seems that the new plane is so gianormous that additional service roads and runways have to be closed in order to land the Airbus at LAX, causing disruptions for other airplanes and general traffic!
